Downtown Revitalization

New York Main Street (NYMS) Program

The New York Main Street (NYMS) program provides grants and technical assistance to local governments and nonprofits to revitalize historic downtowns, mixed-use districts, and village centers across the state.

What the Program Supports

NYMS funds support commercial and residential building improvements, such as:

  • Façade renovations
  • Interior upgrades to commercial and residential spaces
  • Streetscape enhancements (e.g., trees, benches, trash cans — only alongside a building renovation)

Note: NYMS does not fund new construction or demolition.

Eligible Areas

Projects must be in a defined Main Street target area (usually 3 contiguous blocks) that:

  • Shows signs of neglect or disinvestment
  • Has multiple substandard or vacant buildings
  • Is home to low-income residents or designated for economic/community development

Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI)

The Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) is helping bring new energy and opportunity to downtown Ticonderoga through several transformative projects. Administered by the Town of Ticonderoga and by North Country Rural Development, this initiative includes the Small Projects Fund, which provides grants to local businesses and property owners for building improvements and renovations that strengthen the downtown district. The project also supports enhancements to the LaChute River Walk, creating a more welcoming and accessible space for residents and visitors to enjoy the natural beauty of the river.

Additional efforts include the creation of Adirondack Performing Arts, which will expand cultural and entertainment opportunities in the community, and the stabilization of 108 Montcalm Street, preserving an important downtown structure for future redevelopment. Together, these projects work to enhance the vibrancy, economic vitality, and long-term sustainability of downtown Ticonderoga.
